چکیده
Background: Beta thalassemia is one of the most common causes inherited disorder in world. In India, around 65000-70000 cases are present currently and every years 9000-10000 new added. Measurement serum ferritin level gives an idea about when to start iron chelation therapy, which will reduce concentration thereby prevents multiple organ damages. Methods: A prospective hospital based study was conducted on 100 children having beta major. These were regularly transfused at our their measured by ELISA assay. Detailed transfusion history demographic profile recorded compared with level. Results analyzed SPSS software Microsoft Excels. Results: study, mean 0-5 year age group was1262 µg/l, 6-10 1963.44µg/l 11-18 2387.43µg/l. On applying ANOVA test, it evident that there a statistically significant correlation between increased increasing patient as well number total blood transfusion. Conclusions: High associated dependency. Serum measurement regular interval helps determining ideal timing therapy dependant thalassemic patients.

Correlation of Serum Ferritin Level with Cardiac Function in β-Thalassemia Major
Background: The most important problem in regular transfusion dependent β-thalassemia major is cardiac dysfunction due to iron deposition in it. The aim of this study was to evaluate correlation between serum ferritin levels and cardiac function in β-thalassemia major in Mofid Hospital. Materials and Methods: There were 112 β-thalassemia patients with a mean age of 13.55± 6.12 years, of whom 49...

Background and Aim: Serum ferritin in patients with thalassemia major is an indicator of iron overload, which is the main cause of damage to various organs of the body in patients with thalassemia major. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum ferritin level and renal function in thalassemia major patients. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectio...
متن کاملHypothyroidism and Serum Ferritin Level in Patients with Major ß Thalassemia
Abstract Introduction Major ß Thalassemia represents a group of recessively inherited hemoglobin disorder, which is characterized by reduced synthesis of globins chains. Frequent blood transfusions can lead to iron overload, which may result in several endocrine complication especially in the absence of adequate chelating therapy. The objective of this study were to determine the prevalence of...

Background: Thalassemia major (TM) is one of the most common hereditary anemia with multiple endocrinopathies (especially hypogonadism). So, we evaluated the rate of delayed puberty (DP) and its relation with serum ferritin level in patients. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional (descriptive-analytical) study was conducted on 100 patients with TM between 14-64 years old, admitted to Amir...

Abstract Background Prevention of myocardial siderosis is a key step to reduce rate of mortality in thalassemic patients. Our objective was to study association between echocardiography parameters and serum ferritin level in patients with major thalassemia. Materials and Methods Sixty-six patients with major thalassemia were studied in Amir Kabir hospital, Arak, Iran. Serum ferritin levels ...
